Summit 2012






It gives us great pleasure to present to you the 3rd Government Law College International Law Summit, organized by the Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai, in association with the Indian Merchants Chambers. The Summit is scheduled to take place from the 3rd - 5th February, 2012.


SPIL has undertaken the task of promoting International law and taking legal studies beyond textual knowledge, hence encouraging its members to think out of the box. The Government Law College International Law Summit is a direct result of this constant endeavour.


The Summit, aside from the key note addresses, lectures, workshops and call for papers, comprises of two novel competitions which were conceived within our institution. Our association with premier institutions such as the International Law Student Association, Chicago and the Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi have only added to our credentials, and have ensured interest and participation from reputed law schools across the world.


The Theme for the 2010 edition of the Summit, is International Trade Law and Economic Policy. The presence of International trade law insures a secure and predictable trade environment, hence encouraging International trade and investment. This in turn, leads to extended profits, both, for buyers and sellers. It also sets International standards for global trade. A sound economic policy with short term as well as long term financial planning can lead to the rapid economic growth of the country. The relevance of International Trade Law and Economic Policy, post the global financial crisis, has grown tremendously.


The Invitation to the Summit, comprising of the competition Modules and other relevant details, shall be unveiled in the first week of August, 2011.



Treaty Appreciation Competition



The Treaty Appreciation Competition is modelled on the procedures of various Internationalbodies entrusted with the task of evaluating and appraising the legality, consistency and rationality of treaties, codifications and other legislative documents. The International body chosen for this edition of the Summit will be revealed on the date of the release of the Competition Module. The Competition Module, would comprise of a legislation, an amendment to a legislation or a codification in keeping with the theme of the Summit.Participants, representing various member states of the International body, are expected to launch an examination of the said Module, critique the propositions therein and recommend alterations, deletions or additions.



International Judgment Deliberation



This competition brings a fresh approach to problem analysis and judgment deliberation. The Competition Module comprises of a case file with wide connotations. It invites varied interpretations that not only attract the application of established legal principles but also encourage innovative thinking based on legal analysis and rational thought. After a thorough investigation into the facts of the case and arguments presented, the participants must compile a judgment that is infallible in law and innovative in thought.



Call for Papers



The 2012 edition of the Summit is calling for papers within the realm of International Arbitration and Taxation. All further details and instructions will be declared in the Invite upon its release. We look forward to contributions from across the spectrum of the student community and the legal fraternity alike.


SPIL and Government Law College, Mumbai look forward to hosting the Government Law College International Law Summit 2012, as a celebration of the joyous exploration of the many nuances of International Law.
