Summit 2013

It gives us great pleasure to present to you the 4th Government Law College International Law Summit, organized by the Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai. The Summit is scheduled to take place from the 1st-3rd February, 2013.

SPIL has undertaken the task of promoting International law and taking legal studies beyond textual knowledge, hence encouraging its members to think out of the box. The Government Law College International Law Summit is a direct result of this constant endeavour.

The Summit, aside from the key note addresses, lectures, workshops and call for papers, comprises of two novel competitions which were conceived within our institution. Our association with premier institutions such as the International Law Student Association, Chicago and the Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi have only added to our credentials, and have ensured interest and participation from reputed law schools across the world.

The Theme for the 2013 edition of the Summit, is Contemporary Issues in International Arbitration and Mediation . Traditional litigation is weaved with problems. Prolonged trials in law courts, large pendency of cases owing to large arrears causing backlog, procedural rigidity, dispute with respect to jurisdiction which arises frequently and heavy costs, among others, have given way to the establishment of new system for dispute redressal called Alternative Dispute Resolution. Arbitration and Mediation are two such forms of dispute resolution. One of the parameters to gauge the success of the justice delivery system in any society is to ascertain how quickly and effi ciently disputes between contesting parties are settled. This is where Arbitration and Mediation stand out as are attractive options. With the already large and constantly growing number of cases pending before law courts, dissatisfied disputant parties and heavy costs of litigation,Alternative Dispute Resolution, especially Arbitration and Mediation are gaining tremendous importance and popularity all over the world.

The Invitation to the Summit, comprising of the competition Modules and other relevant details, shall be unveiled in the second week of July, 2012.
